Here is the patriotic look that I wore around South Padre on Monday. I just got around to editing the pictures, and it is making me want to go back! It was such a great long weekend; there is just nothing that says summer more clearly than the sound of the ocean. I also got to play some Bananagrams and Guesstures (always a favorite), while pigging out on every carb I could reach. Take me back! I don't want to write more reports, I want sand and sun!

Well, after a luxurious four-day weekend, I figured I had to get back in the swing of things with a professional outfit. While it's (literally) a buttoned-up look, the fullness of the pleated skirt and the details of the shoes keeps it from being too stiff. After being off for so long, I knew I'd need to wear flat shoes to get through the day. Stilettos just weren't going to happen!

I thought I'd keep the Memorial Day spirit going so that I could wear my red, white, and blue to work too! I usually only wear these shoes with very casual outfits, but I thought they went perfectly with this patriotic look. Don't these colors just scream summer?

Like Sam suggested yesterday, I wore my patriotism on my sleeve--literally--in this red, white, and blue ensemble (okay, it's technically red, cream, and blue; sue me). At the grocery store, we saw lots of people stocking up on soda, chips, and burger fixins, but we decided to be homebodies this weekend and spend our time watching the Indy 500 and way too much HGTV, so we didn't buy any fun party food. I swear, we had to be the only people buying a cart full of healthy ingredients! How was your long weekend?

Twin Styled: It's a Grand Old Flag

It's a part of Memorial Day tradition to hang Old Glory outside of your home, but since I live in an apartment, I prefer to wear it instead! I always love red, white, and blue together, but it is especially meaningful on Memorial Day, when you can see seas of people wearing the colors in memory of the men and women who have died while serving in the armed forces.

I also think it is a day of enjoying what it is to live in this great country, from eating barbeque to running around with sparklers. So, as my ninth-grade geography teacher used to say, I hope you all have a great All-American weekend--watch sports and drink whole milk!

Well, it's finally warm enough to break out my shorts. I always have the hardest time finding shorts that meet my requirements--not too short, comfortable, and inexpensive (because why should something so small cost so much?!)--and I actually found two pairs this year. I nabbed these bright orange ones at Loft during their Friends & Family sale, and I found a navy blue pair, which I have yet to debut, at the J. Crew Clearance Center during the Asheville, North Carolina leg of our road trip. The very kind cevd tipped us off to it by way of East Side Bride, and it was all kinds of amazing. It's supposed to get warmer as the long weekend progresses, then dip back into the 50s and 60s next week, so I better wear my shorts while I can! Is it shorts weather yet where you live?

This is a bright and happy look to celebrate the end of the IEP year, and my impending trip to the coast! Orange is such an exuberant color, and it definitely matches my mood today. I am so ready to skip town and enjoy some time on the beach (beneath layers of sunscreen of course)! Does anyone have any fun Memorial Day plans?
