Daily Look: Pink and Yellow

This is my second sweater this week, but don't be fooled, it is still crazy hot outside! My classroom on the other hand, that's another story. I tend to get chilly during the day, so a neutral cardigan is my best friend. I try to always keep one on the back of my chair, although I can only think of it with contempt when I get in my sweltering car at the end of the day.

I did keep the color palate summery, with plenty of bright yellow and pink. These cheerful colors are great for inspiring a cheerful mood! Have a great long weekend!

Fall Trend: Oxblood

Oxblood, burgundy, maroon...whatever you call it, it's going to be huge this autumn. And with the unofficial end of summer coming up this Labor Day Weekend (despite what the weather seems to think), I decided to round up a few of my favorite vampy pieces. I've loved wearing blood-red nail polish for as long as I can remember, but this year, lips are headed that direction as well. I have to admit that I'm slightly terrified of wearing dark red lips myself, but I've seen it look absolutely gorgeous on lots of women.

Usually when I have cats on my clothing, it comes in the form of fur that must be relentlessly removed with a lint roller. Today, however, this fun printed skirt lets me take my kitties with me without looking like a total mess. I thought that bright colors and a whimsical print would be just the ticket for the first week of school. It brightened my day and set my nervous kiddos at ease.

If only I could have brought Uzi, my favorite furry accessory along too. Unfortunately, he does better posing for pictures than he does in the car!

I first saw this dress when I was shopping for my What to Wear to a Summer Wedding post. I really liked its floral pattern and tulip shape, and it was such a good deal that I just couldn't pass it up. Although I didn't have any weddings to go to this summer, I'm thinking I'll still get plenty of use out of this dress. And hey, maybe I can use it next year for its intended purpose!

Daily Look: Who Wears Short Shorts

This is a look that I wore to brunch at Madhatters with my mama and my sweet friend who was in town for a visit. Although it is a tea room, Madhatters definitely has a funky vibe, so I didn't feel the need to be too prim and proper. My summer break is at its end, so I just had to break out the short shorts! And it may not be sweater weather here yet (I think that is due around January), but this one is so light and loose that it is hardly warmer than a t-shirt.

We had such a fun time catching up and giggling over my mom's stories about her rebellious teen years. It was the perfect last hurrah of my summer vacation. Next stop: work clothes!

I wore this outfit to go out to dinner with my husband last night. I wanted to get a little extra done up, but I didn't want to go too dressy because we live in such a casual city. I decided to go for a lot of shimmer, but in a casual silhouette that I paired with flats. As per usual, I was still the dressiest person there, but I didn't mind.

This is a look that I threw together in a flash, and I actually really like how it turned out! Sadly, my favorite white skirt is still out of commission with odd rust stains, but this white dress was happy to sub in. The mix of the tied plaid shirt with the pop of red on the shoe is reading a little country to me, but I'm cool with that. I don't have boots or a cowboy hat, so I think I'm safe from becoming a Texas cliche!
