Daily Look: 90s Halloween
We had a decades dress-up day at school yesterday, which meant that we got to wear a costume to represent any decade. While many of my coworkers went with the 2010s, I decided to channel Clarissa Darling and Angela Chase with a 90s-inspired look. Perhaps not surprisingly, many of my students did not get my outfit, with one asking me if I was from the 70s and another wondering *if* I was wearing a costume (because apparently this seems like something I might normally wear?), but that's okay. I had fun anyway. What this outfit is really missing is a sweet pair of Docs, but alas, I didn't have any lying around. Even my husband got in on the 90s action, editing these pictures to make them look older.
What are you wearing for Halloween?

Daily Look: Black Cat Mini-Costume
Shirt: Asos // Jeans: Madewell // Shoes: Converse // Ears: Modcloth
As part of red ribbon week (yes, it's still going strong), we had a dress up like a super hero day at work on Wednesday. I don't have a ton of capes and masks in my closet, but I was determined to participate, so I decided to break out my minimalist Halloween costume a few days early and claim to be Cat Woman. Yes, she may be more of a villain than a hero, but she's in comic books and I already had the ears! It also gave me a way to wear my traditional Halloween sweatshirt without breaking the spirit-wear only rule on Fridays.
I'm sure a lot of my coworkers thought I was cuckoo, but the kids were big fans. It's kind of fun being a kitty cat for the day! Meow!
Do you dress up for Halloween at your work?

Daily Look: New Favorite Skirt
Shirt: Target // Skirt: Express // Shoes: Nine West // Necklace, Bracelets: Ann Taylor // Earrings: The Limited // Sunglasses: Cole Haan via Marshall's // Lips: Revlon Balm Stain in Lovesick
When I first spotted this skirt over the summer, I pinned it immediately. I've been on the lookout for cute, full, high-waisted skirts, and this is about as full and high-waisted as it gets without veering into tutu territory. Sadly, at $80, it was definitely more than I was willing to spend. So when I saw it last week for $40 (plus an additional 30% off, woot!), I knew it had to be mine. I was super excited when I tried it on and realized that it actually fit, especially because so many supposedly high-waisted skirts end up sagging down, refusing to sit at my natural waist. I twirled around the room and made my husband tell me how pretty my new skirt is. (He lives for that stuff.) My new favorite skirt made its big debut at work yesterday, and I'm fighting the urge to wear it again tomorrow.
Have you gotten any good deals lately? Do you stalk things you want until they go on sale?

Halloween Costume Inspiration: The Goldbergs
I don't know if you are watching The Goldbergs yet, but it is heartwarming, hilarious, and full of amazing '80s fashion. The show centers around a dorky kid named Adam, but his mom, played by Wendi McLendon-Covey, steals the show. Not only does she go to war with anyone who threatens the happiness of her "delicious babies," she rocks the socks off of some seasonal sweaters and patterned jumpsuits. Her outfits are so fun that I thought they would make a pretty fantastic Halloween costume.
When I was doing an image search, I noticed that cool sister Erica's wardrobe is just as ridiculous as her mother's. I guess the line between cool and lame in the '80s is just not discernible to the modern eye. So, I recreated both of their fabulous looks to give any inspired readers more choices. Turns out, the key element of these costumes--legwarmers--are easier to find than I would have predicted. Toss those over some leggings, yank down the shoulder of an old sweater, and layer on the Aqua Net for a Halloween costume that is sure to bring out your inner smother. Or, if you are too rad for that, two-toned shorts and a side pony may be the way to go. There are just so many options.
Anyone else feeling the '80s this Halloween? If I can find a wig in time, I would LOVE to go as Bev this year.

Halloween Costume Inspiration: Baby Spice
If you've watched TV, movies, or even gone shopping at Forever 21 lately, you've probably noticed that the 90s are back in a big way. Yep, the decade of my childhood is now cool again. So why not take advantage for Halloween and dress up as a member of one of the most iconic 90s groups of them all: The Spice Girls.
There are so many possibilities, but I thought Baby Spice might be the easiest. All you need is a babydoll dress or slip--I found this one at Abercrombie for $35--to pair with knee-high socks and platform shoes.

Daily Look: Jeans Day (The Best of Days)
Shirt & Ring: Asos // Jeans & Jacket: Madewell // Shoes: Steve Madden via Marshall's // Earrings: Francesca's
Every Friday morning I have the same routine: my alarm goes off, I cry because it feels like I only got 5 minutes of sleep, and then I realize it's Friday and sing "jeans day, party time, excellent!" followed by a little air guitar solo. For someone who loves to dress up, I am pretty obsessed with wearing jeans to work. There are just so many advantages! They go with everything, I don't have to worry about freezing to death in the conference room, and I can do my lunchroom floor and kindergarten play centers therapy sessions without worrying about unladylike sitting positions.
I already know that next week is going to be a great one because I can wear denim every day of Red Ribbon Week, woohoo! I wonder if I will sing my Wayne's World cover every morning. I'm betting I will.
Anyone doing anything fun this weekend?

Daily Look: Cat Power
Shirt: Asos // Jeans: Madewell // Shoes: Forever 21 // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban // Lips: Milani Rose Hip // Nails: China Glaze Merry Berry
Today was a casual day at work, so I took it as an opportunity to break out my fun new kitty cat shirt. It was very popular with my students, although some of them told me it looked more like a rabbit than a cat. I tried to explain to them that the pointy ears clearly made it a cat (I was all, "Duh, rabbits' ears are rounded"), but they were having none of it. I have to say, I'm loving all the novelty shirts (and sweaters, and pants, and, well, everything) I've been seeing lately. Fashion should be fun (and adorable)!
Have you gotten in on the novelty fashion bandwagon?

Daily Look: Lace on Lace
Blouse: Marshall's // Pants: Zara // Shoes: Ann Taylor // Earrings: Loft // Ring: Vintage
I guess I was just feeling lacy this morning because I unthinkingly matched a lace shirt with pants covered in lace detailing. I also tried something new with my hair (which is code for my bangs were being awful and I gave up and slicked them back) that made me feel unrecognizable. Isn't it funny how moving a few strands of hair can totally change the way you see yourself? I'm sure no one else even noticed!
Do you experiment with your hair? My mom always wanted me to try new things but I am pretty much a one trick side-swept banged pony.
