Daily Look: Violet Femme

Blouse: Asos // Skirt: Ann Taylor // Shoes: Nine West // Earrings: Nordstrom Rack // Ring: Vintage

I took Lauren's advice and tried out a crop top at work with an undershirt as insurance against flashes of tummy, and I have to say I am a huge fan.  The silhouette is a great change, but the thing that I'm really wild about is not having to constantly re-tuck my blouse into my skirt.  I go from sitting to standing quite a bit at work, so I end up spending way too much time readjusting my clothes when my shirt is tucked in (which happens to be almost every day).  The relief of not having to worry about it for once is actually making me think I need some more crop tops.

Who would have thought that crop tops would make it into professional wardrobes?

Anyone doing anything fun this weekend?

Daily Look: Dressing in Layers

Dress, Rings: Madewell // Shirt: The Limited // Bag: Old Navy // Shoes: DV by Dolce Vita via Nordstrom // Bracelets: Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, Madewell // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban // Earrings: Target // Nails: UO Bandeau // Toes: Mary Kay Radiant Red // Lips: MAC Rebel

As much as I love the look of a great layered outfit, it can sometimes make me feel like a stuffed sausage, and I'll end up spending all day tugging at a shirt to get it to lay flat underneath a sweater. That, coupled with the fact that it's still way too hot here for most of the cute fall outfits I've been seeing lately, means it's sometimes impractical to dress in layers. But this sleeveless button-down from The Limited (a Christmas gift from Sam last year) is quickly becoming my favorite layering piece because it's thin and sleeveless. I wore this outfit to work on Monday and never had to worry about the blouse underneath my dress riding up or making me uncomfortable, which is great for me, because as much as I love clothes, I'm completely unwilling to sacrifice comfort for style.

What's your stance on layering?

Daily Look: Purrfect Clutch

Blouse & Skirt: Loft // Shoes: Guess via Marshall's // Bag: ModCloth

I have been keeping an eye out for a clutch for a while now, but since it wasn't exactly a necessity, I wasn't going to buy one until I found either a great deal or a great clutch.  Happily this little guy satisfied both!  ModCloth posted it on their Pinterest page about a month ago as a soon to be available item, and sometime around the minute they put it up for sale, I made it mine.

I probably don't need another cat in my closet (especially since I have two chubby ones snoozing in there and getting my clothes furry at this very moment), but I just couldn't resist!  It's a cat with eyelashes!!  Now, instead of only using a clutch for special occasions, I am breaking it out every chance I can find.  This little baby was worth the wait.

Hope you're having a happy hump day!

Daily Look: Basic Black and White

Shirt: Old Navy // Jeans, Rings, Bracelet: Madewell // Shoes: DV by Dolce Vita via Nordstrom // Earrings: BCBGeneration // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban // Bag: Old Navy // Lips: MAC Peach Blossom // Nails: UO Bandeau // Toes: Mary Kay Radiant Red

I wore this outfit out to eat with my husband on Friday night. We had decided to venture out of our comfort zone and try a new restaurant outside of our normal radius, but when we got there, it was closed. We were both pretty bummed because we had big plans to gorge on Texas toothpicks, greasy burgers, and shakes, but alas, it was not to be. Luckily, the burger joint was on a street that was absolutely full of restaurants, so we Yelped it up and found a New York-style pizza place about a block away. Long story short, we now have a new favorite pizzeria and are feeling inspired to keep exploring.

Have you tried any new restaurants lately? Do you tend to stick to a few favorite, or do you prefer exploring what your town has to offer?

Roundup: Winter Coats

Coat Weather

A little cold front blew in last night and got me to thinking about whether or not I'm prepared for the looming winter weather.  I have a pretty conservative coat, but I was thinking it might be nice to get a more fun one to change things up.  A bright color or a more casual cut would really help break up the monotony of an entire season in the same gray coat.  It isn't a necessity, so I definitely wouldn't be willing to shell out much for it, but I am going to keep my eyes open for sales.

Do you have multiple coats or stick with the same one every day?

Daily Look: Keyhole to my Heart

Shirt: Ann Taylor // Pants: Zara // Shoes: Taryn by Taryn Rose via DSW // Earrings: Banana Republic // Watch: Seiko // Nails: UO Bandeau // Ring: Madewell // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

This shirt is of my all-time favorite things to wear to work, partly because of its geometric keyhole and partly because of its emerald green color. It's the kind of color that looks good on everyone, but it's surprisingly hard to find, so when I do, I pounce. I did the same when I found these earrings last year; I knew they had to be mine. I love jewel tones at any time of year, but fall is when they really call to me.

Are you into emerald green (and other jewel tones)? Do you have a favorite color to wear?

Daily Look: Old Standby

Shirt: Old Navy // Skirt: American Apparel // Shoes: J. Crew // Earrings: Francesca's // Rings: The Limited

Ever since Lauren pinned this picture to Pinterest three years ago, I have been doing far right lady's chambray and full skirt combo for everything from work to date nights.  I can hardly believe I still love it after all of these years, but that's why classic pieces are so wonderful.  They might not be as exciting as the newest trends, but they sure do last a lot longer!

What are the pieces that have lasted the longest in your wardrobe?
