Daily Look: Pants Weather

Blouse: Banana Republic Outlet // Pants: Zara // Shoes: Ann Taylor Outlet // Earrings: Francesca's // Ring: Vintage

As Lauren mentioned yesterday, a cool front has swept through Texas, leaving us with actually chilly weather in the mornings. It was too cold to wear a skirt yesterday, so I broke out a pair of dress pants for maybe the first time this school year. I usually avoid buying black pants, but I got these for Lauren's Christmas present last year, and knew I would be jealous if I didn't get some too. Luckily I always have my trusty lint roller at hand!

Daily Look: Sunny Sunday

Shirt, Shoes: J. Crew // Jeans: Gap // Bracelet: Ann Taylor // Earrings: The Limited // Lips: Milani Rose Hip // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

I wore this outfit out to lunch with Sam and my husband yesterday. A cold (or, more accurately, cool) front came in this weekend, bringing the temperatures all the way down into the mid-seventies. It was a gorgeous, sunny day with just a hint of chilliness in the air, perfect for eating outside on the patio. I love that it never really gets cold here, but I have to admit that I'm ready for cooler weather, if for no other reason than the fact that I'm ready to break out all my cute sweaters!

How was your weekend?

Halloween Costume Inspiration: Olsen Twins

Olsen Twin Costume

For many girls in my generation, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were the epitome of awesome. They were tv stars, adorable, and comic geniuses. Brother for sale?? Amazing. And now that they're all grown up, they stay on my radar for a totally different reason: their (in my opinion) bananas boho/old lady/high-end homeless style. Their style is so different and recognizable that I thought it would make a great costume. You could probably achieve this look by shopping your own closet, and maybe supplementing with some thrift shop items. For one stop shopping, a trip to grandma's might do the trick as well.

All you need is a pile of over-sized clothing, head pieces to put on over unbrushed hair, and an eyeliner that you don't mind using up in one night. You can earn even more points by talking a friend or significant other into being the Mary-Kate to your Ashley. I would definitely try to talk Lauren into doing this with me, but I think I'm too tall to pull it off. Unless the clothes look like they are in the process of eating you alive, it just doesn't work.

Daily Look: Black and Blue

Shirt: Ann Taylor // Pants, Necklace: J. Crew // Shoes: Taryn by Taryn Rose via DSW // Bracelets: Gift // Earrings: Banana Republic

I used to be hesitant to pair black and blue, fearing that it broke some sort of sacred rule. But now that we're living in a Golden Age of Not Having to Follow Arbitrary Fashion Rules (or GANHFAFR, as most people call it), I can just wear the colors that I think look good together. And if I want to throw on some leopard print shoes and a pink necklace? Well, let's just say the fashion police were nowhere to be found. Phew!

Are there any old fashion rules you still believe in? What rules do you prefer to break?

Daily Look: Outdoor Wedding

Dress: Ann Taylor // Shoes: Nine West // Earrings: Old Navy // Rings: Vintage

This is a look that I wore to a garden wedding in Kyle, Texas. It was a rainy day, so suede shoes were probably not the wisest choice, but I managed to avoid getting them too wet. Plus, I needed them to achieve the late sixties vibe I was going for! The wedding was in a beautiful shaded garden, and was complete with plenty of boogie-ing down to Michael Jackson hits (always a plus)! I just love a wedding.

Daily Look: Dog Days

Shirt, Skirt, Earrings: Banana Republic // Shoes: J. Crew Factory // Necklace: Ann Taylor // Lips: Revlon Certainly Red

The dog days of summer might be over in most of the country, but it's still hot and humid enough here that I can get away with this summery, nautical-inspired outfit. This is the time of year when I try to squeak a few last wears out of some of the items that I'll soon be shifting to the back of my closet to make room for fall clothes. After all, the high this coming Saturday is only supposed to be 78. Brrr!

Have you put away your summery clothes yet or are you trying to eke out a few more uses?
