Daily Look: Sun Hat

Shirt: ModCloth // Skirt: Target // Hat: Mint via Urban Outfitters // Shoes: GoMax via Ella Blue // Sunglasses: Betsey Johnson via Marshall's

The last time I was in Boerne, a shop owner asked me where I was from, and when I replied San Antonio, he made a joke about my not looking like a Texan. Yes, it's true, when people picture a Texan in their minds, they probably don't envision blinding paleness. But I am naturally very fair, and I don't think that a golden tan is worth the health risks. So, what with the blazing sun in this part of the country, I have to work very hard to avoid overexposure. I wear sunscreen, avoid going outside during peak sun hours, and always seek shade. This sun hat has been a great addition to my sun avoiding arsenal, because it keeps my neck and face in constant shade. Plus I think it's pretty darn cute!

Are you a sun worshiper, or do you stay in the shade?

Daily Look: So Blue

Shirt, Pants: J. Crew // Shoes: Zara // Earrings: Loft // Bracelet: James Avery // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban // Lips: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Lovesick

Today I was looking for a way to wear this pair of cobalt pants that I picked up last week. Should I go neutral? Pick a contrasting color? I stood there staring at all the options available to me (which isn't a lot right now, because most of my clothes are in boxes in a moving truck in Indiana right now) for much longer than you'd think. Finally, I decided to go all-blue with this equally-saturated top. I always like the way shades of the same color look together, so I'm not sure why it took me so long to make up my mind!

Do you often pair shades of the same color? And do you spend way too long staring at the clothes in your closet like I do?

Round-Up: Bikinis

bikinis

Since my last inspiration board featured my favorite one-piece bathing suits, I thought I better round things out by sharing some bikinis that have caught my eye. Even though I've been considering a one-piece for a while, I always end up wearing a bikini because, I figure, I have a whole lifetime to cover up, and my two-piece wearing days are numbered. Of course, I really shouldn't be looking at bathing suits at all since I still like the one I have, and I tend to only wear my newest suit. But those butterflies...want!

Do you wear a one-piece or two?

Daily Look: Gilded Peach

Shirt: Dorothy Perkins // Pants, Earrings: Loft // Shoes: Me Too via Marshall's // Bracelets: Forever 21 // Ring: Gift (Vintage) // Necklace: Banana Republic // Sunglasses: via Marshall's // Lips: Face Stockholm French Martini

I wore this outfit while spending time with some family members who were visiting from out of town. The weather hadn't been as hot because of the crazy thunderstorms that hit San Antonio hard over the weekend, so I figured jeans were the way to go. Of course, when I went outside to take these pictures, I quickly realized that I had chosen incorrectly. It was so hot and muggy that I ended up changing into a skirt before heading out to run some errands. Funny thing is, I'm usually really good about checking the weather before getting dressed--it's one of the first things I do each morning!

Have you ever had to change your clothes after going outside?

Daily Look: Here Comes the Sun

Shirt: Forever 21 // Skirt: ModCloth // Shoes: GoMax via Ella Blue // Earrings: Loft // Ring: Vintage // Bracelet: H&M // Sunglasses: Betsey Johnson via Marshall's

Happy Memorial Day everybody! As you may have seen on the national news, San Antonio has been getting more rain than we know what to do with. This was an outfit that I wore during a break in the weather for a quick trip to Target and the hardware store. A kitty cat skirt is probably not the most typical item of clothing in Lowe's, but I was dressing for comfort in the post-downpour humidity. Plus, who really wants to fit in at the hardware store anyways? I'll leave the work boots and beat up jeans wearing to the professionals.

Summer Trend: Tropical Paradise

This weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, so I decided to shop for one of last year's biggest summer trends that's still going strong: tropical prints. Nothing says summer quite like birds of paradise and palm trees, which you can find on everything from sunglasses to shoes. And while these prints aren't necessarily for the fashionably timid, it would be simple enough to incorporate one boldly printed piece into your summer wardrobe. Here are some of my favorite options:

Tropical Paradise

All of these pieces are so fun and summery that they make me wish I was drinking something out of a coconut (although honestly, when is that not the case?)

Do you have any tropical prints? Would you wear them?

Daily Look: White Collar

Blouse: Marshall's // Jeans: J. Crew // Shoes: Chinese Laundry via ModCloth // Earrings: Francesca's // Bracelet: Loft // Ring: Vintage

Hooray, more colorful jeans! I am making good progress toward my goal of having every color in the crayon box. I've been looking for a good deal on purple jeans for a while now, so I was super psyched when I found these on sale. Of course, I was supposed to just be going to the mall to make returns, but I couldn't help looking around a little bit. And really, who can resist a great deal?

What is on your wish list?
