Labor Day is coming up on Monday, so I thought I'd put together a look for the last big summer hurrah. My only Labor Day tradition seems to be forgetting about it until a few days before, and I kind of like it that way. I never have time to make any big plans, but always enjoy spending the day relaxing, and taking a breather before the school year really kicks into high gear. On the first day of school, I will see the long year looming in front of me and feel a little (totally) overwhelmed. Then all the sudden I'll take a better look at my school calendar and realize, wait, I've got a three day weekend coming up, and all is right with the world. So far my big plan for the holiday is sleeping in as late as possible, and maybe eating a hotdog.
Do you have any plans for the long weekend?

Dress: Banana Republic (via consignment) // Shoes: J. Crew // Earrings: Target // Bracelet: Banana Republic // Lips: Mary Kay Firecracker
The school year has definitely begun, and I'm getting back in the swing of things. It's amazing how physically exhausting it is to be on your feet all day when you're not used to it! On day one, it was my feet. On Tuesday, my back was killing me. But I think that my body is finally starting to get the hang of things, partly thanks to two days of flats in a row.
Do you tend to wear flats to work or heels? Does your job involve much standing?

Shirt & Shoes: J. Crew // Jeans: BDG via Urban Outfitters // Earrings: Target // Bracelet: H&M
This is an outfit that I wore to one of my favorite fast food restaurants, Culvers. Lauren and Jared had their first official school day on Monday, so I, as the slacker who doesn't start with students until September, thought I'd treat them to some burgers and frozen custard to celebrate. The food was excellent, as was the conversation. I loved getting to hear all about their days, especially Jared's story of being told by a student that he was the "flyest cat" he had seen all day.
I hope all of you educators are having a smooth first week!

Shirt: J. Crew // Skirt, Bracelets: Ann Taylor // Shoes: Taryn by Taryn Rose via DSW // Earrings: Banana Republic
I wore this outfit on Monday, which was the first day of the new school year, and my first year teaching in my home state of Texas. It was also my husband Jared's first day ever as a professor, so we were in the same boat. The kids don't realize it, but we teachers are often just as apprehensive on the first day as they are; we just hide it better! It's always an incredibly exhausting day, but I made it through and am feeling good about my new school.
Do you remember how you felt on the first day of a new school year? How far in advance would you plan out your outfit?

Shirt: Gift // Jeans: J. Crew // Shoes: Dolce Vita
This is an outfit that I wore to dinner on my last Friday here in The Woodlands before the school year starts. I will be heading back to San Antonio later in the week, and as much as I will love having access to all of my clothes again, I am really sad to go. Thankfully, now that they are back in Texas, I know I will be seeing Lauren and Jared again in no time. I guess it's bye bye Family Feud marathons, and hello early morning commutes for me. How does summer fly by so quickly?

Shirt: Forever 21 // Skirt, Shoes: J. Crew // Earrings: Gift
I wore this outfit out to dinner on Friday night with Sam and Jared. We were trying out a local pizza place that ended up being really great. I wore this top again on Saturday (only with jeans) to play in the state finals of a trivia tournament with my cousins in Houston. We didn't win, but we did have a lot of fun! Afterward, we spent the evening with my aunt, uncle, and cousins who live a few miles away from the restaurant where the the tournament was held. Being back in Texas is awesome!
How did you spend your weekend? Have you jumped on the whole animal print bandwagon?

Dress: ModCloth // Shoes: BCBG // Hairband: Loft Outlet // Bracelet: H&M
This is one of my favorite dresses to pack for any trip because it can be dressed up or down, it is very comfortable, and, best of all, it doesn't get wrinkled! Seriously, on the way back from Destin, I ran out of room in my bag and ended up balling it up and throwing it in a plastic grocery sack. When we got back, I just pulled it out and hung it in the closet, good as new. I wish all of my clothes were that easy. Sadly, I have a whole pile of ironing that I really need to get on.
