Daily Look: Something Old, Something New

Shirt: Oasis // Pants: Gap // Shoes: Nine West via DSW // Rings: Madewell, Gift // Earrings: Loft // Necklace: Banana Republic // Nails: Love & Beauty Fuchsia // Toes: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Pep-Plum // Lips: Mary Kay True Dimensions Pink Cherie

When I was a kid, the only thing I liked about the start of a new school year was going back-to-school shopping with my mom. We weren't allowed to wear any of our new clothes until school started, so I would pine for them for weeks until I finally got to bust out my new threads. Now that I'm a teacher, I still go back to school each year, but I no longer go shopping for a whole new wardrobe each summer. Instead, I shop throughout the year, adding pieces to my closet here and there. I picked up this top recently from Oasis and paired it with pants, shoes, and accessories that I've had for awhile.

Did you like going back-to-school shopping when you were in school?

Daily Look: Over the (Crop) Top?

Shirt & Ring: Asos // Skirt: Target // Shoes: Chinese Laundry via ModCloth // Earrings: Gift

Ok, so I set this outfit out to wear yesterday and then chickened out and wore something else.  Then I did it again today!  Maybe my unwillingness to bite the bullet and actually wear this outfit to work should tell me something.  But then again, maybe I need to be a little more courageous with my fashion.  I just don't even know anymore.

Clearly I am thinking way too hard about this; someone guide me!

What do you think? Is neon yellow and a crop top fun and happy or just plain cuckoo?

Outfit Inspiration: Reese Witherspoon's Summer Style

Has anyone else noticed how cute Reese Witherspoon has been looking lately? Say what you will about her passenger-side etiquette, the girl can dress. It was hard to pick a favorite from her recent string of hits, but I have to say I'm especially loving her white crop top/skirt combo from last month.

I mean, right? So adorable. And I think it would be so easy to re-create, especially since crop tops are everywhere right now. Here's my take on the look:

Have you been loving Reese's street style as much as I have? Would you wear this look?

Daily Look: Butterfly in the Sky

Blouse & Ring: Asos // Skirt: The Limited // Shoes: Ann Taylor // Earrings: White House Black Market

Well, I didn't end up wearing my carefully thought out first day outfit on the first day of school because I ended up being required to wear a gigantic school t-shirt.  But, if I'd had it my way, this would have been it!  The bright, apple red skirt makes me feel teacher-y and the butterflies add a nice Reading Rainbow vibe.

It was so fun getting to see my students yesterday and spending time with the new kindergartners who were equal parts adorable and terrified.   I still have trouble sleeping the night before the first day of school, so I can only imagine what their little hearts are going through.  Hopefully today there will be fewer tears (from kiddos and parents) and more smiles in the carpool line!

Daily Look: Back to Business

Dress: ABS via consignment // Shoes: Ann Taylor // Earrings: The Limited // Sunglasses: Cole Haan via Marshall's // Lips: MAC Girl About Town // Nails: Revlon Parfumerie China Flower // Toes: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Blue Me Away

After months of shorts and sundresses, the school year is starting and it's back to professional attire again. I wore this dress to our district-wide staff development day, which ended up being one of the steamiest days of the year. Thankfully, this dress is incredibly lightweight, which helped me survive when the air conditioning in our building couldn't catch up. I also love that even though I got this dress for a steal from a consignment shop while we were on vacation last year, I get compliments on it almost every time I wear it because it's such a pretty color. I'm confident Buddy the Elf would approve.

Is it hot and steamy where you live? What are you wearing to deal with it?

Twin Styled: First Day of School

First Day of School

Ahhh!  Monday is the first day of school and my mind is spinning over what I will wear.  First impressions are so important so I always spend a long time deliberating before laying out my outfit.  I try to find things that are friendly and fun with a hint of authority.  This is my dream outfit because it definitely hits all of those notes.  We've got bright colors and Mickey working together to add friendliness, a blazer to show who's boss, and some flats because heels and hallways just don't mix in my world.

Hopefully I can find something similar in my closet!

Daily Look: New 'Do

Shirt: Old Navy // Shorts: Gap (originally jeans) // Shoes: DV by Dolce Vita via Nordstrom // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban // Bracelet, Rings: Madewell // Toes: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Blue Me Away

Since I'm living in Texas again, I decided it would be a good idea to grow my hair out during spring so that I could put it up during the summer. But now that school's starting back up again, I'm excited to be back to shorter hair. It feels so much lighter, and it's so easy to do now. I wore this outfit last weekend to run some errands and pick up some end-of-summer-vacation treats from a bakery down the road. It was my last weekend of sweet, sweet freedom and I needed to self-medicate with some sugary delights.

Do you wear your hair shorter or longer during the summer? Or do you prefer the same length all year long?
