Daily Look: The Little Details

Shirt: Forever 21 // Skirt: H&M // Earrings: Francesca's // Shoes: J. Crew Factory // Bracelet (Sam's): Banana Republic // Lips: Revlon Kissable Balm Stain in Lovesick

This shirt fell by the wayside during fall and winter, but I re-discovered it while my husband and I were moving into our new apartment last month and ended up spending a lot of time in it on that very hot weekend. I've had it for seven years (which is pretty surprising considering it's from Forever 21), but I still really like it because it's comfortable, breezy, and full of little details. I love the tiny flower print, the ruffled neckline, the cute red buttons, and the rounded puff sleeves.

What's your oldest piece of clothing that you still like wearing (this actually isn't mine, but it's close!)? What little details draw you in?

Daily Look: Pleats, Please

Shirt: BDG via Urban Outfitters // Skirt: American Apparel // Shoes: BC Footwear via Endless // Earrings: Francesca's // Cat Ring: Asos // Pearl Ring: Vintage // Sunglasses: Cynthia Rowley via Marshall's

This look was inspired by 1930s women's golf attire (of all things)! I originally bought this button up because I felt like it was channeling Don Draper in his vacation clothes, but switch out the shorts for a pleated skirt, and suddenly I feel like I'm ready to hit the green. And for once, I am wearing this skirt on a day that is free of skirt-lifting wind. I finally don't have to spend the whole day holding it down!

Do you ever wear clothes inspired by an era?

Daily Look: Happy 4th of July

Shirt: H&M // Shorts & Belt: J. Crew // Shoes & Earrings: Target

Happy Independence Day everybody! I wear a lot of red, white, and blue throughout the year, but on July 4th it's a must. This year I really wanted my shoesies to pop, so I left them as the only red in the outfit. Other than dressing like a flag, our family traditionally sits by the pool, snacks, and watches fireworks on the 4th. We aren't breaking out the sparklers this year, but here's a picture of my mom and me enjoying last year's festivities.

Do you have and 4th of July traditions?

Daily Look: Turquoise and Melon

Shirt: J. Crew // Shorts: Gap // Shoes: GoMax via Ella Blue // Bracelet: James Avery // Earrings: Loft // Lips: Face Stockholm French Martini

Color blocking may have been the huge trend of 2012, but I still love it. I'm such a sucker for bright colors, so having the opportunity to combine them is super fun for me, especially during the summer. As a kid, I would have probably thought that this outfit was totally weird and breaking every fashion rule of matching I was ever taught. I'm happy that I can now get away with clashing colors without somebody calling the fashion police to report me.

Do you ever color block? What are your favorite  colors to combine?

Daily Look: Gray on Gray

Blouse: Francesca's // Shorts: Gap // Shoes: Nine West via Marshall's // Earrings: Limited // Bracelets: Banana Republic // Ring: Vintage

I got these shoes on sale at Marshall's thinking, I need these, I don't have any black sandals. It turns out only half of that statement was true, because judging by how long they've sat in my closet unworn, I probably didn't exactly need them.  I guess I just don't reach for black during the summer very often, but I was glad to have them today! And now that I've rediscovered these gray shorts, I think I'll be getting much more use out of them in the coming months.

Do you have any items in your closet that you love, but never seem to wear?

Daily Look: Summer Neutrals

Shirt: Loft // Shorts: J. Crew // Shoes: Me Too via Marshall's // Earrings: Banana Republic // Lips: MAC Peach Blossom

While summer is typically the time of year when I break out all of my brightest clothing, I surprised myself when I realized that I had gotten dressed entirely in neutrals. Honestly, I'm not much for wearing only neutrals at any time of year, mostly because I love color and can't help but wear it whenever possible. I know a lot of people who are afraid of wearing too much color and looking garish, but I'm afraid of not wearing enough color and just fading into the background. Regardless, I like the softness of the tones in this outfit and would definitely wear it again.

Do you prefer to wear neutrals or bolder colors? Are there any colors you refuse to wear?
