I have big plans for this dress next Halloween (you'll just have to wait to see what they are), but in the meantime, I thought I'd get some use out of it! Despite the fact that this dress is totally devoid of color, the fullness of the skirt keeps it from being devoid of personality. Though I'm usually drawn to colors and patterns, I am happy that I decided to keep this entire look neutral. It's a fun change, and really puts the focus on the silhouette.

Gift Guide: Mother's Day 2012

Did you know that Mother's Day is only three weeks from today (May 12, to be exact)? If you haven't yet found that perfect gift for your mom, or even started looking yet--don't worry, I won't tell--it's time to get on it! I decided to put together a gift guide full of vibrant, summery jewelry, bags, and accessories that I think a lot of moms would love but might not buy for themselves. To me, those are the best kind of presents. Not surprisingly, my inspiration was my own mom; she's stylish and she loves to have fun.

Once I had painted my nails mint green, I couldn't resist going matchy-matchy with this blouse. I love this outfit because it is sugary sweet and so easy. Between the elastic waisted skirt and cotton t-shirt, I don't think sweats would be any more comfortable. Plus, I get to feel put together instead of like a bump on a log (as I sit around like a bump on a log). Hey, at least I don't look lazy. Have a great weekend!

I always forget how much I love this sheath until I pull it from the depths of my closet and wear it. While it's an incredibly simple look, the fluorescent pink color helps take it to the next level. Every time I wear this dress, I end up getting so many compliments, but it's the dress doing all the work--I deserve none of the credit!

The city of San Antonio is gearing up for Fiesta, and I decided to get in the spirit! Though I usually avoid the crowds and searing heat, I do love to look at the floats and traditional dresses draped in bright colors. This ruffly, orange blouse reminds me of the paper flowers that decorate our floats and classroom hallways every spring. I even tried to copy the pose that many of the women who adorn the floats strike to show off the grandeur of their skirts, but unfortunately, they outdo me in fabric yardage. Plus, they get a sweet sash...life can be so unfair.

The final leg of our road trip was spent in Lexington, Kentucky. While we were there, we visited the University of Kentucky, and its campus completely wowed me. It's full of buildings with lovely architectural details, surrounded by fun shops and restaurants, and home to an Arboretum whose gardens were in full bloom. Of course, I certainly won't be cheering for the Wildcats any time soon--after all, they beat Baylor's men's basketball team on their way to the National Championship--but I don't think they're short on fans.

I'm springing up a classic work look today with a happy yellow sweater. We got a little cold front, so light layers are just the thing. I am trying to enjoy this wonderful weather while I can (before we enter triple digit temperature season), but the end of the school year is always wild, and I never seem to have enough time! Where do the weekends go?
