Although I'd still describe myself as more of a skirts girl (at least when it comes to dressy clothes), I've been building up my collection of work pants slowly but surely. Cute pants are everywhere right now, so I've been having a much easier time finding them in the right fit, length, color, etc. As you may have noticed, for me, that means slim, tapered, and cropped. I prefer this kind of pant because I find it the most flattering, and I like that it means I can wear either heels or flats. When you're on your feet as much as I am, it just doesn't make sense to buy clothes that only work with heels. Plus, I like the versatility of being able to dress my clothes up or down.

Hello summer! I know it isn't the official day, but the end of the school year always marks the true first day of summer for me.  I am celebrating by wearing one of my favorite items from last year's summer wardrobe: this bright, striped t-shirt dress. I paired it with what I am pretty sure are going to be this year's favorite sandals. They are seriously comfortable, y'all!

Now I need to complete summer's first right of passage, and jump in the pool.

I got this dress in the mail yesterday and wasted no time before wearing it. It's a perfect summer dress because it slips on over my head, belts at the waist, and is made from wrinkle-free jersey. I can totally imagine tossing it in a suitcase for a vacation, wearing it to work, or just throwing it on to run errands. I love versatile clothes because they're so easy to wear and they really make me feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

I wore this outfit on a trip to Lowe's to get supplies for some projects for Lauren's new place. I don't know why, but the amount of heat that builds up in a car in a parking lot during the summer always takes me by surprise. Luckily I had my short shorts and a loose shirt to help me get as much air as possible. Plus Lauren thought ahead and brought cold water.

My husband and I spent this past weekend moving into our new place in Texas, and wow, it's definitely summer, which made me realize that I probably need more shorts in my wardrobe. I always have a hard time finding shorts that I like, so the hunt is an almost never-ending process. I decided to round up some of my favorite pairs of short shorts under $50, because who wants to spend a lot of money on such a small amount of fabric?!

I'm particularly loving the striped Madewells and the Forever 21 sailor shorts.

I can check one item off of my summer wish list, because I found a comfortable summer dress at Forever 21. I am admittedly a lazy shopper, so I don't often find anything there. I tend to walk around aimlessly, then decide that it is too much trouble to try to dig through the racks. This time though, I had my super twin who can power through any store to find hidden gems. She helped me find a few dresses to try on, and this one was the winner. I love the sheer top and the butterflies! Next on the wishlist: more shorts.

If you live somewhere hot and you're wondering what on earth I'm doing wearing (almost) long sleeves and jeans in June in Texas, well, I get it. But I wasn't dressed for the weather when I wore this outfit; I was dressed for the movies! I figured, hey, I'll be indoors in the frigid air conditioning for hours; I'll only be outside for the length of time it takes me to dash from the car to the box office. I think I made the right call, but I can't say I felt that way while I was outside taking these pictures!
