Runway to Reality: Nina Ricci Spring 2013

I love that pants are so prevalent on runways right now. I always adore skirts and dresses, but pants are important parts of the work wardrobes of almost every woman I know, myself included. So it is wonderful that they are finally starting to get some attention. Lately, stores are moving from only stocking the oversized slacks I've been avoiding since I started working to sleeker, more flattering silhouettes. Of course, my favorite pants are still jeans!

This week I decided to re-create a look that I love from Nina Ricci's Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear collection because I think it would work great with some awesome work pants, but it could also be translated into a jeans look on the weekend.

I ended up choosing jeans for my version, but I think it would also look great with light colored skinny trousers. These pieces are actually so classic that they would be a breeze to find in one trip to the mall. In my re-creation, everything is affordable, but you probably already have at least a few of the items in your closet, so it would be even cheaper!

Would you wear this feminine pants look? How many of the items do you have already? I think all I'd need would be the bag and pants.

I spotted this adorable sweatshirt while my husband and I were shopping in Chicago a couple of weeks ago and knew that I had to have it. Yeah, yeah, a Minnie Mouse cupcake sweatshirt isn't technically a necessity, but it was just too adorable to pass up, especially for less than $20. You see, I (along with Sam and my husband) am one of those people who honestly believes that Disney World is the most magical place on earth (and I'm guessing Disneyland is a close second, though I've never been). I went there for the first time four years ago--yep, as a full-grown adult--and fell in love with it. Sure, I might never get a chance to wear this sweatshirt in the place where dreams come true (I mean, does Florida ever even get cold enough for one?), but I can now chill with Minnie whenever I want.

Anyone out there as in love with Disney World as I am? What do you think is the most magical place on earth?

Lauren is very good at matching her nails to her outfits, but I never really think about it until I notice my green nail polish clashing horribly with a pink dress. By some bit of luck, today I noticed that not only did they not clash, my nails and my shirt were the exact same color! I wish I could claim that it was my thoughtful consideration that led to this bit of matching bliss, but it was total chance.

Do you worry about matching your outfit to your nails, or do you just go with it?

During a particularly hilarious episode of Happy Endings, Jane and Brad get in a huge fight when they lose couples game night, and it all starts when Jane incorrectly guesses Brad's favorite color. This led me to wonder whether my husband and I would be able to do the same. It turns out that I knew his--blue, in case you're curious--but my response was, "Trick question. I don't have a favorite color." That's because I have so many. Basically, my favorites are bright, saturated shades of just about any color. And that's what I love about this sweater. Its gold color is really vibrant and rich, so it's one of my favorites, along with a whole lot of others!

Because I was so excited about my new red kicks, I decided to wear an outfit that would really show them off. I thought an all blue look would be just the thing to make them pop.  I think it really worked too. All day my kids were complimenting my new sneakers, and talking about the color. I think I'm going to be getting a lot of use out of these puppies.

Yesterday was the type of day where the weather was all over the place. It was cold in the morning, warm(ish) by the afternoon, and the sun took turns shining brightly and hiding behind dark clouds. I dressed in layers to try to keep up with the weather, and while my legs were fr-eeeezing in the morning--um, can leg warmers please come back in style?--I felt comfortable once the sun came out. Such is the nature of springtime dressing!

Sam's Summer 2013 Wish List

You may think it's too early for me to be posting a summer wish list, but when warm weather comes to Texas, it comes quickly! These are some of the items I am hoping to find before the 100 degree days set in. I hate having my bangs on my face when it's really hot, so I definitely want to find a few cute hairbands. I'm also looking for more colored jeans (always), comfy dresses, anything nautical, and some casual skirts. Also, watermelon Vans? So cute.
