Daily Look: Patterned Jeans

You might be thinking that wearing jeans during the Texas summer makes me a crazy person, and you would be partially right.  The thing is, I wore these to the grocery store where the arctic chill from the freezer section creeps over me and makes me shiver even in July.  I hate that sensation so much that I faced the hot and humid outdoors in tight jeans.  I don't think I deserve a medal or anything, but some impressed nods at your screen might be appropriate.



How do you navigate between the heat of the day and the goosebump-inducing air conditioning of the indoors?

Daily Look: More Zebras!

I promise we didn't plan this, but I wore my zebra shirt this past weekend too. I guess Sam and I really are twins! And would you believe that I actually made one of the items that I'm wearing? Okay, maybe not made exactly, but I did haphazardly cut an old pair of college jeans into shorts, all the while dodging my cat, whose incredible animal instincts were telling him that it would be a good idea to bite my scissors. Turning pants into shorts is about as crafty and creative as I get; meanwhile, Sam was posting all the cool art projects she has been making to Instagram and making me feel very unproductive. Perhaps zebras is where our twintuition ends.

Daily Look: Wild Woman

Ever since Lauren got her zebra print shirt at Forever 21, I have been wanting something similar.  So when I saw this baby at The Limited, I knew it was only a matter of time.  First I had to wait until they offered a 50% off sale, then for it to crawl through the postage system, but it was worth the wait.  I love the pattern, I love how loose and comfortable it is, and I love that it can go from casual to work just by switching from shorts to a pencil skirt.  The shorts that I threw in my cart for free shipping that actually ended up fitting?  Well, that was just the icing on the cake.

Daily Look: Anniversary Dinner

I wore this outfit out to dinner with my husband Wednesday night to celebrate our third wedding anniversary. I've worn this dress before in a far more casual way, but I decided to dress it up a bit with my hair, makeup, and accessories. I got these shoes when Sam and I went shopping last week (she got them too, only in a different color), and, after witnessing a hit-and-run that forced us to do a lot more walking than anticipated, I can now confidently say that they were a great purchase because my feet felt perfectly comfortable with no breaking in required. Truth be told, I don't really believe in breaking shoes in--I've never had gotten an uncomfortable pair of shoes to magically become comfortable by torturing myself in them. Have you?

Daily Look: Bocce Ballin'

This is not the most glamorous look I've ever posted, but when you're playing bocce ball in the middle of a field in July, you don't want to get too fancy.  I got this shirt during Baylor homecoming last year at an awesome store right off campus and it's become my favorite t-shirt.  Whenever I wear it, people tend to read it aloud in a confused voice, "I Texas Waco?"  No, Texans haven't started using the words Texas and love interchangeably (yet), the sentiment is clear to anyone whose blood runs green and gold.

Oh, and since I know you are all dying to find out the results of my bocce match, rest assured, I won.

When I came out dressed in this outfit, my husband asked, "Is that shirt new?" I told him that it's new to me, but that it's actually many, many years old. Sam bought this shirt from the Ann Taylor outlet store while we were in college (I think), back before I even knew what a peplum was. She passed it along to me because she doesn't wear it any more, and I've always liked it. Yay for hand-me-downs! I tried to wear it earlier this year to work, but I actually got completely stuck in it when the side zipper caught on a loop of thread meant to hold a belt that this top originally came with. I had to literally cut myself out of the shirt and find something else to wear, and ended up being a leeetle bit late to work. I finally got the courage to try it out again, this time making sure there were no threads to turn it into a straitjacket, and now I'm excited to try it again for work.

Well, I must have developed a case of summer brain because I totally forgot to put up my post yesterday!  Sometimes it is difficult to remember what day it is when your agenda is free and clear.  It's strange how little I can do in a day while still enjoying myself.  I have really been catching up on my blog reading, painting, reading, and most of all tv watching.  Can you believe I hadn't seen every episode of Cosmos yet??  On a side note, if you missed Cosmos, you should really check it out.  I've never had so much fun while feeling so dumb.  My new dream is to attend a real life Neil Degrasse Tyson lecture.
