Halloween Look: Mod Monday

Dress: Asos // Shoes: BC Footwear via Endless // Earrings: Etsy

Trick or treat! This Halloween I decided to use my currently bleached pixie to pay homage to the sixties icon, Twiggy. Lauren found this dress for me on Asos, where there is no shortage of mod minis. I had fun striking poses and batting my exaggerated eyelashes; I kind of wish I could wear my makeup like this every day. I am even loving the nude lip, which I have never tried before, that I achieved by blending concealer and lip gloss.

My style definitely borrows from the 60s and I fully intend to incorporate this dress into my non-costume wardrobe, though perhaps I'll cut back on the mascara. Hope you are all eating too much candy!

Halloween Look: Take on Me

Happy Halloween! Today I am channeling Molly Ringwald and the teenagers of the 80s in a Gunne Sax by Jessica McClintock prom dress that I picked up years ago for $10 at Goodwill. I absolutely love the 80s-tastic detailing on this dress, with its sweetheart neckline, sequined trim, Swiss dots, giant bow, stiff petticoat, and basque waist. Smoky eyes, sculpted cheeks, bold lips, and big hair complete the look.

This dress makes me want to dance the night away with Jake Ryan. We'll bop around to Psychedelic Furs, New Order, Depeche Mode, Modern English, and Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark. What did you dress up as this year?

The temperatures here have dropped dramatically over the last few days--there was frost all over the place Friday morning!--and it's really starting to hit me that winter is just around the corner. Chilly weather always puts me in the mood for coat shopping, so I put together a group of my favorites.
Although I'm not crazy about the reason for wearing them (brrrr), I do love all types of toppers, from duffels to trenches, capes to peacoats, military-inspired to perfectly ladylike, and everything in between. I'm a total sucker for a coat in a bold, fun color, but neutrals are lovely and oh-so-practical. And while I'm not in the market for a new coat this year, it's still fun to (internet) window shop. What type of coat are you looking for this year (that is, if you're not busting out an old favorite)?

Daily Look: Greensleeves

Dress: Banana Republic // Shoes: Aldo // Earrings: Etsy

I am wearing this all-over pattern to a shower where I get to meet my cousin's baby, Jovan, for the first time. I can't wait!

This has truly been a week for shopping my family member's closets. Both of the shirts from earlier in the week were once Lauren's, and this dress gave my mom a case of buyer's remorse until I offered to give it a new home. I sometimes get items from her for only a short time, because she often wants them back as soon as she sees them on me. I know I have felt the same way about things I have given to Lauren in the past. What is it about someone else wanting your stuff that makes it suddenly look so much cooler?

Daily Look: Casual Friday

F

Shirt: Anthropologie // Jeans: Banana Republic // Shoes: Bandolino via DSW // Cardigan: J. Crew

For me, casual Friday means a great excuse to wear jeans to work, which always seems fun and makes me feel like I'm getting away with something. Still, I want to look put-together enough that I don't blend in with my students, so I dressed this pair up with heels and a plaid blouse. The ruffled cardigan is a staple in my wardrobe, but I almost lost it a couple of weeks ago when I dropped it in the parking lot at school. Thankfully, another teacher found it and returned it to me safe and sound. Thanks Ms. C!

Daily Look: Navy Steals

Blouse: J. Crew // Pants: Gap // Shoes: Nine West // Earrings: Francesca's // Ring: Vintage

This is a work look that I love because it is so comfortable but still makes me feel good about how I look. I actually bought the top from Lauren because it didn't quite fit her the way she wanted. I was thrilled, because I had been coveting it from the moment I saw it. Also, I am once again wearing my suede pumps from Lauren's wedding. I had no idea how versatile they would be; they have become a real staple in my wardrobe.

Daily Look: Pleats and Stripes

Shirt: Urban Outfitters // Skirt: Zara // Belt: H&M // Shoes: Bandolino via DSW // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban // Earrings: Francesca's // Hair Pin: Forever 21 // Necklace: NYC Chinatown // Silver Bracelet: James Avery // Pearl Bracelets: Target

Lately, I've been going back and forth between wearing tights and wearing my legs bare, but the forecast suggests that this may be the last time that the skin on my legs sees the light of day, so bid them adieu! Although there have been some very chilly mornings, we've had a much warmer October than usual, which I've certainly appreciated. Now, as we move into November, I will need to brace myself for much colder temperatures, and even...gasp...snow. I'll try not to whine too much about it, but I make no guarantees.

Daily Look: Pumpkin Carving

Shirt: Forever 21 // Pants: J. Crew // Shoes: Converse // Earrings: Banana Republic Outlet

Well, if I had worn the look I dreamed up in last week's Autumn Adventures post to carve my jack-o-lantern, I probably would have melted faster than the tea light brightening his smile. It may not feel like fall yet in Texas, but the temperatures have finally dropped enough for flannel to be comfortable in the evening. I wore this outfit to a friend's house on Sunday night where we feasted before carving pumpkins and then trying a special bleach and Vaseline voodoo that is supposed to stop mold from growing on our creations. So far so good!
